GM FlexFuel, Hybrid, and Fuel Cell Vehicles

Live Chat Tomorrow’s choice today from GM:  vehicles that can use a cleaner, renewable, U.S.-grown fuel.

FlexFuel Vehicles can provide you with an energy solution—it's the smart choice.

E85 FlexFuel Vehicles can run on either gasoline or E85 ethanol—a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.  Good news, because for every 37 gallons of E85 ethanol used, you’re saving one barrel of oil—reducing our dependence on petroleum.  E85 ethanol, a renewable fuel made from US-grown bio material (like corn or grain products) also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boosts your engine’s performance. By the end of 2006, GM will have nearly 2 million Flex Fuel vehicles on the American road.

GM Hybrid and Fuel Cell Vehicles

GM's vision is to remove the automobile from the environmental equation.

GM is focusing its development of hybrid technology on vehicles that use the most fuel, like transit buses, full-size trucks and SUVs.

GM is using several types of hybrid systems that will provide customers with a choice in fuel economy savings and price.

Two-Mode Full-Hybrid 2008 Chevy Tahoe
Full-size hybrid capability in an SUV, based on GM's highly successful diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system for transit buses.

Hybrid-Powered Buses
GM has delivered more than 380 hybrid systems for transit buses to 29 cities in the U.S. and Canada. Our full-hybrid diesel electric drive system for buses delivers significantly better fuel economy than traditional transit buses, with a reduction of certain emissions by up to 90%.

And now, BMW and DaimlerChrysler have joined forces with GM to co-develop a two-mode full-hybrid for rear-, front- and all-wheel-drive vehicles.

GM Fuel Cell Vehicles:
Imagine vehicles that don't need fossil fuel and emit only water vapor.

GM fuel cell technology could lead us there, with cars and trucks that are less dependent on natural energy supplies—helping to end energy shortages and reliance on oil, and making a more positive impact on the environment.
